2017 Hawaii State Science and Engineering Fair

In a continuing effort to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education and programs in Hawaii’s schools, AWWA-Hawai‘i Section is calling for its members and its member-organizations to get involved with the 2017 Hawai‘i State Science and Engineering Fair (HSSEF), hosted by the Hawai‘i Academy of Science (HAS). This year, on behalf of the AWWA-Hawai‘i Section membership, the Board of Trustees is proud to sponsor the 2017 HSSEF with a $1,000 sponsorship and two (2) $250 AWWA-Hawai`i Section agency awards.

HAS is a nonprofit organization that has been promoting scientific research and education in Hawai‘i for over 90 years and has been running the state’s oldest and largest science fair for almost 60 years. Each year, almost 6,000 bright and eager students from grades 6 through 12 submit display or research projects to their school and subsequent district fairs. These mind-blowing projects, which are beyond what most adults could have imagined presenting when they were in grade school, compete, and will be judged at this year’s 60th Annual HSSEF held at the Hawai‘i Convention Center on April 10-12, 2017. Winners of the HSSEF will be entered into the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair to be held in Los Angeles, California on May 14-19, 2017, a stage where Hawai‘i students traditionally perform very well. For more information about the HAS or the HSSEF, visit their website at: http://www.hawaiiacademyofscience.org.

AWWA-Hawai‘i Section is looking for volunteers that are willing to judge HSSEF project entries on behalf of AWWA-Hawai‘i Section and those that can fill non-judge positions, as well.
